Princess Charlotte Adds a Touch of Plaid—Possibly Borrowed from Mom or Dad

Princess Charlotte may have borrowed something cozy from Kate Middleton’s closet for a recent family photo session.

In the new Father’s Day portraits released by Princess Kate and Prince William, 10-year-old Princess Charlotte was seen wearing an oversized plaid scarf—one that royal watchers believe might look familiar.

The deep green and navy tartan scarf closely resembles the one Princess Kate wore on Christmas in December 2024, prompting speculation that Charlotte may have borrowed it from her mother—or perhaps even her father.

On June 15, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared two new portraits of Prince William with their three children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—in celebration of Father’s Day. Captured by photographer Josh Shinner, the images appeared to have been taken the same day as Prince Louis’ most recent birthday portrait.

In the first color photo, Charlotte sported the cozy scarf while hugging Louis in a sweet sibling moment, standing beside their father and older brother. The charming detail didn’t go unnoticed by fans, who appreciated the personal, hand-me-down touch.

The Princess kept the scarf on in the second picture, which was shared in black and white. The playful shot showed George, Charlotte, and Louis piled on top of William, 42, as the family laughed together on the ground.

The scarf appeared oversized on Charlotte, falling past her knees—a subtle hint that it may have been borrowed from one of her parents!

Princess Kate, 43, wore a similarly colored plaid scarf during the royal family’s Christmas outing at Sandringham in December 2024. Prince William has also been seen sporting scarves at various chilly engagements in the past, adding to the likelihood that the accessory came from the royal wardrobe.

In another charming touch, the caption on the carousel of Prince William’s Father’s Day tribute was styled like a sweet social media “takeover” from Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

“Happy Father’s Day, Papa (before and after!) We love you! G, C & L 💖,” the message read.

Father’s Day fell just one day after Trooping the Colour — the historic British Army parade celebrating King Charles’ official birthday as sovereign. Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis made their second public appearance of the year at the festivities in London the day before, riding by carriage to the parade with Princess Kate and later appearing on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Princess Charlotte wore a particularly special accessory for the occasion: the miniature horseshoe brooch gifted to her by Queen Elizabeth.

As PEOPLE exclusively revealed, the diamond brooch was a gift from the late Queen Elizabeth to her great-granddaughter and originally belonged to the Queen Mother, who was also named Elizabeth.

Charlotte first debuted the heirloom at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022, and wore it again during the military parade on Saturday.

There, Princess Charlotte and Princess Kate shared a mother-daughter matching moment in shades of aqua — with Kate’s look seen as a tribute to the blue uniform plumes of the Irish Guards, the regiment she supports as Colonel.
